Four kinds of pivots

Stay or go is a smaller questionthan it feels like.

Staying or leaving covers two of the four. Answer two questions, one about the work and one about the place, and you’ll see which move fits where you are right now.

Answer the two questions

Step one

Two questions decide which move fits.

Does the work fit?
Will this place meet you halfway?

Not sure? Sort your frustrations below and I’ll tell you what the pattern says.

Step two, if you’re not sure

Will this place meet you halfway?

List what’s bugging you. Then sort each thing into the zone it really belongs in. The pattern answers the question.

Influence

You can change it yourself, right now.

Partnership

You can change it with someone else’s help, like your boss or your team.

Acceptance

It isn’t going to change, however well you ask.

Step three, for the full pivot

Pile up what you already know.

Tap the skills you use in your work, from any field. The roles that use the most of them rise to the top. Start from a background close to yours or build the pile from scratch.

Roles that connect

Each bar shows how many of a role’s usual skills are in your pile. The six closest show here. Tap one for more about it and for resume examples.

Add a skill and the roles will start to line up.

A pile of skills tells you where to look.

Choosing a direction, testing it small, and making the first move is the work that comes after. You can do it two ways.
