It’s the day after the 2024 U.S. election, and I’m off my regular content schedule to unpack the whirlwind of emotions I’m feeling: disappointment, shock, and even despair. This isn’t about politics but about the deeper values of compassion, fairness, and empathy that feel threatened by the election results. Struggling to reconcile my hopes for a kinder world with the reality of the vote, I’m sharing my raw thoughts on how this personal heartbreak is more about our shared humanity than mere political decisions. I might lose followers over this, but I’m okay with that—this is about standing firm in our values and finding ways to move forward, one compassionate step at a time.
Today is November 6th, 2024, the day after our big election in the U.S.
I’ve been feeling sad and confused since hearing the results. It feels like everything is upside down, and I know some of you might feel the same way.
What I Thought We Believed In
For a while, I thought that even if we don’t all agree on politics, we could still care about treating each other kindly and fairly. I thought those were things we all cared about.
But the election results were surprising and made me question whether we’re moving away from those caring values. And this feels personal because these results tell us something about our kindness and care for each other.
I wanted more people to have compassion for those who need help, but today it seems less likely. It’s hard to see how we move forward from here.
There’s also been talk about the American Dream—a chance for everyone to have freedom and success.
Right now, it feels further away and more like a dream that’s slipping away.
That realization is tough for many of us who believed in it.
Finding Our Path
I’m not sure how to fix this or feel better right now. But I believe it’s okay to feel upset and think about the future we want.
Maybe this is a time to remember our beliefs and values and to work even harder to show love and kindness.
And I know that talking about these things might not make everyone happy, and that’s okay. It’s important for me to stay true to what I believe in.
If you’re still here reading this, that means you are part of a group that cares about kindness and respect. You are my people. 🫶
