Simplify Your Day: 7 Easy Hacks to Reduce the Mental Load

You’ve got a lot on your plate. More than most, no doubt. You’re out there crushing it, wearing all the hats, and making all the things happen. And that mental load that comes along with all of that can start to feel like an anchor dragging you down, making even the easiest tasks feel like too much.

You might find yourself lying awake at night, running through tomorrow’s to-do list, or feeling that familiar knot of stress in your chest before the day even begins. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

With a few simple tweaks, you can lighten that load and give your brain the break it deserves (and needs). These 7 hacks will help you streamline your day, make life a bit easier, and bring some much-needed calm to the craziness.

Hack #1: Brain Dump It All Out

You know that feeling when your mind’s so full it’s hard to think straight? Grab a notebook and just unload everything in your head. No order, no filter. Get all those random thoughts, to-dos, and worries down on paper.

Hack #2: The 5-3-1 Method for Decision Fatigue

Decision fatigue is real, and it can wear you down. Instead of weighing a million different options, narrow it down to 5 choices, cut that down to 3, and then pick 1. No matter if you’re deciding what to have for dinner or deciding on a new project to take on, the 5-3-1 method saves you from spiraling into overthinking.

Hack #3: Implement “One-Touch” Rules for Emails and Paperwork

Stop revisiting the same email or piece of paper over and over again. The next time you open an email or pick up a document, deal with it on the spot. Reply, delegate, file, or delete. Handling things in one go cuts down on the constant mental (and physical) clutter and keeps things from piling up.

Hack #4: Theme Your Days

Instead of switching gears all the time, give each day a theme. Maybe Mondays are for meetings, Tuesdays for deep work, Wednesdays for admin tasks, and so on. This way, you can focus on one type of work without constant distractions.

Here’s how this looks for me:

  • Mondays: Marketing
  • Tuesdays: Content creation
  • Wednesdays: Meetings & video recording
  • Thursdays: Meetings & internal affairs
  • Fridays: Admin catchup & strategic planning
  • Saturdays: Family fun
  • Sundays: Household management & personal development

Hack #5: Schedule a “No-Decision Day” Each Week

Set aside one day a week where you make zero decisions. Everything’s pre planned… meals, outfits, even your playlist. Decision-making drains your energy, so giving your brain a day off from that helps recharge your mental batteries.

Hack #6: Set a Digital Curfew

Scrolling late at night is a surefire way to overload your brain. Set a time in the evening where you shut down all screens. No phone, no laptop, no TV. Give your brain some space to wind down. It’s amazing how much clearer your thoughts will be the next morning.

Hack #7: Outsource your Life Admin

You don’t have to do everything yourself. Outsource what you can. Hire a virtual assistant for small tasks, get those meal kits sent to your house, or delegate chores at home. Offloading these repetitive tasks frees up mental space for the bigger things.

These are some of the things that I outsource to make my life easier:

  • Grocery pickup
  • Amazon subscription for dog food (totally needed with 5 dogs 😆)
  • Automatic bill payments
  • Auto renewals for prescriptions
  • Lawncare through our HOA

Ready to Make Your Life Easier?

You don’t need to do all seven of these at once. Start with one or two that resonate with you and see how they fit into your life. The goal is to simplify, not complicate. You deserve to feel less stressed and more in control of your day-to-day life.

Start with just one of these hacks and see how much it helps. And if you want more strategies tailored to your life specifically, let’s connect. Book your free 30-minute coaching session today.
